There are many reasons why you might need to go on a weight gain diet! Maybe you’ve been ill and experienced unintended weight loss, or maybe you are trying to build muscle to meet a certain weight class.
Either way, smoothies are a great way to pile on some extra calories and meet your goals. When I got food poisoning while travelling, I lost a lot of weight very quickly and needed to build my strength back up.
Smoothies really helped me then, because my stomach couldn’t handle anything heavier, but drinking them as a meal replacement meant I was able to consume plenty of vitamins and minerals, and get enough calories to help my body recover!
Weight gain can have as many health benefits as weight loss.
Higher calories helps with weight gain
The science behind weight gain is as simple as the science behind weight loss: if you need to eat less than you are using to lose weight, then to gain weight your calorie intake has to be more than what you are eating.
These smoothies are all over 450 kcal, so a very solid amount of calories. The good thing is that eating 450 kcal in a drink is a lot less labor intensive than eating 450 kcal of solid food.
For comparison, that would be the equivalent of eating 5 bananas in one sitting!
I have made sure that these weight gainer shakes all use exclusively healthy ingredients, such as nut butters and seed butters for healthy fats, greek yogurt or natural protein powder, lots of fruit and veg and whole grains like hemp seeds and chia seeds.
Gaining weight with smoothies the right way
No processed rubbish here, no added sugars! You will be getting only top quality calorie content, which is always the best way to go. Everything should be available from your local grocery store.
As there are lots of fruits, seeds and oats spred about the various smoothies, that also means many of them have lots of fiber, too!
As this Harvard fiber article points out, many people really don’t get enough fiber, and most of us will benefit greatly from much more!
A delicious smoothie seems like a great option when it comes to meeting your weight gain goals, am I right? Try them now!
