How to make the healthiest Greek yogurt breakfast

You’ll notice we often turn to Greek yoghurt when we’re thinking of yogurt veggie breakfast ideas . Why? Because Greek yoghurt is arguably the healthiest yoghurt out there .

Greek yoghurt is made by straining the whey out of normal yoghurt. The result is a thicker, creamier, tarter yoghurt. Whey contains lactose, a natural sugar found in milk. By removing the whey, you also get a yoghurt that is considerably lower in sugar.

It contains plenty of calcium, which is good for bone strength, and loads of probiotics, which are great for your gut. Probiotics have also been proven to lower blood pressure and even improve mental health .

Greek yoghurt also provides the protein in this dish. Protein is important because it helps to maintain muscle mass as well as playing a role in many other vital functionings of your body .

As a minimum requirement, the average woman needs about 48g protein per day, the average man needs around 55g protein per day. This dish contains 21g protein in one serving!

Alternative ideas for yogurt

If you can find it, Skyr is also an excellent yogurt to use! It’s made in a traditional Icelandic style, and the macros are just excellent. In this case it means the calories and fat are low, protein is high! Which leads us on to:

Yogurt for breakfast: weight loss

We would also recommend this fruit and yogurt breakfast bowl for weight loss (we love a good weight loss friendly breakfast )!

It is relatively low in calories at roughly 303 kcal per serving. That’s enough to make a filling breakfast and still leave you plenty of calories left for the rest of your meals, while maintaining a slim calorie deficit which will allow you to lose weight.

It is high in protein too, as already mentioned. Protein is very filling, so high protein foods will keep you feeling full until your next meal – also helpful if you are trying to reduce snacking and lose weight!
